Mounjaro clicks: frequently asked questions
- How many clicks is a full Mounjaro dose?
- 60 clicks equals one full labeled dose on every KwikPen strength. A pen holds 240 usable clicks, which is four full doses.
- How many clicks for a 2.5mg dose from a 5mg pen?
- 30 clicks. The formula is (target dose ÷ pen strength) × 60, so (2.5 ÷ 5) × 60 = 30 clicks.
- How much is one click?
- Each click delivers 0.01ml of medicine. In milligrams it depends on the pen: a 5mg pen gives about 0.083mg per click, a 10mg pen about 0.166mg, and so on (pen strength ÷ 60).
- What is the 'golden dose'?
- Mounjaro pens are slightly overfilled, leaving roughly 0.6ml (about 60 extra clicks) beyond the four labeled doses. Some people extract this as a fifth dose using a syringe. This is off-label, not endorsed by the manufacturer, and carries extraction and sterility risks. Only consider it with professional guidance.
- Can I make a higher-strength pen last longer by click-counting?
- Mathematically, dialing fewer clicks gives a smaller dose, so a pen yields more partial doses. However, you should never change your prescribed dose or stretch a pen without your prescriber's agreement — this tool is for information only.
- Is click-counting officially recommended?
- The manufacturer's instructions describe full doses. Click-counting for partial doses is a patient technique, not official guidance. Always follow your prescriber and the patient information leaflet.
- How many doses are in one Mounjaro pen?
- Four full labeled doses (240 clicks). If you dial partial doses you can get more — for example, eight 2.5mg doses from a 5mg pen.
